We Deliver Four-Hour Project-Based Workshops Led by Professional Engineers and Scientists

We Transform Learning Through Hands-On STEM Education

The Arizona Science Lab (ASL) offers free of charge STEM workshops for student classes in grades 4–8. These four-hour, project-based workshops are taught by expert volunteer engineers and scientists—making it an exciting and educational science field trip for Arizona students!

A Free Program for STEM

This program, offered free of charge to all student classes in the greater Phoenix area, is in direct response to the growing concern that not enough students are adequately prepared to enter into the fields of science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics.

Experiential-Based Learning

This experiential-based learning offers the students a window into the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through a unified lesson including scientific principles, social relevance, experimental demonstrations, and hands-on engineering project construction activities.

From Our Executive Director

Greetings to Our Teachers, School Administrators, and Home School Coordinators!

The Arizona Science Lab continues to bring the excitement of STEM to Phoenix-area elementary school students through our free workshops that supplement the school’s science curriculum.  We welcome classes from Public, Charter, and Private schools, as well as Homeschools.  There is still time to reserve a workshop for the Spring 2026 semester, before our Lab closes at the end of May.  Also, it is not too early to begin planning to attend an ASL workshop in the Fall.  We would like to invite your students to join us for a fun and educational experience.

Please go to the "For Teachers" > "Workshop Descriptions" page of this website to learn more about all of our workshops, including:

  • Rockets
  • Electric Motors
  • Waterwheels
  • Sail Away (Sailboats)
  • Here Comes the Sun (Solar Energy)
  • Oscillators and Waves
  • Building Structures
  • Statistics, Probability, and Analytics
  • Ciphers and Codes

We recently held a fun session of our “Building Structures” workshop, where the students learned about structural load paths and building design concepts.  Then each team built a tower from pipe cleaners and straws and subjected it to “earthquake” loads.  We also had our first offering of our “Statistics, Probability, and Analytics” workshop, which introduced students to these data-driven topics with some fun demonstrations and competitions.

Workshops are held at the Arizona Science Lab’s classroom/laboratory facility located at the Evans Learning Center, 4525 S. College Ave., Tempe.

If you would like to schedule a workshop for your class, or have questions about scheduling, please contact our Registrar, Roy Zaborowski, at registrar@azsciencelab.org, or (602) 689-3950.  You may also sign up for a workshop by filling out the scheduling form on the “For Teachers” page of this website to get started.

For more information on our workshops or general questions about ASL and its mission, please explore our website in more detail or feel free to contact me at the email below.  In addition, if you would like to introduce the ASL program to other members of your school’s faculty or staff, we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet briefly at your school.  We look forward to hosting your students!
